At the January 8, 2018 special Port commission meeting, the Board of Commissioners unanimously voted in favor of a motion to support the Port Angeles School District’s capital projects levy.
Representatives from the Port Angeles School District presented the facts and facility plans for the upcoming capital projects levy at the January 8, 2018 commission meeting. The Port Angeles School District requested the Commission’s support.
Port Commissioner, Colleen McAleer stated, “The levy is critical for a strong economy in Clallam County.” Commissioner McAleer noted that the Port Commission has previously declined to increase the Port’s levy to support the school districts with their levies.
Port Commissioner, Steven Burke said, “Quality teachers want quality facilities. Port Angeles has incredible teachers and in order to retain them, we need to maintain and build quality schools.”
The Port of Port Angeles Commission collectively agreed that in order to achieve its vision of a prosperous Clallam County, there must be quality schools. Quality schools are essential for a strong economy and continued economic growth for our communities.
The Port Angeles School District capital projects levy will be on the ballot on February 13, 2018.
