Commissioners

Contact your Commissioners:

Three commissioners, individually elected in the areas of Port Angeles, Sequim and the West End of Clallam County, each serve six-year terms. Port commissioners work closely with the community and the Port of Port Angeles staff to establish Port policy.

Meet the Commissioners

John Calhoun

John CalhounJohn Calhoun represents District 3 (west) and has served as a Port Commissioner since January 2004.

Commissioner Calhoun has extensive background in various aspects of land and aquatic land management, including sales, leasing and capital projects. He previously served 28 years with the Washington State Department of Natural Resources, 13 of those years as Olympic Region Manager. Active in his hometown of Forks, WA, as well as in Clallam County, Commissioner Calhoun has chaired numerous school levy and bond issue committees, served on the United Way of Clallam County Board, on the Board of Directors for the Forks Chamber of Commerce and he currently administers a privately funded scholarship for graduating Forks High School students who wish to study natural resources. Commissioner Calhoun is an active member of the Forks Lions Club, West End Business and Professional Association and the Society of American Foresters.

In addition to his extensive work experience, Commissioner Calhoun holds a Bachelor of Science Degree in Forest Management from Humboldt State. He is also a Certified Professional Forester.

 

George Schoenfeldt

George SchoenfeldtGeorge Schoenfeldt represents District 2 (central) and has served as a Port Commissioner since January 2006.

Commissioner Schoenfeldt has been a lifetime resident of Clallam County. He has worked around the waterfront for 35 years and has been the Joint Dispatcher for the Pacific Maritime Association & International Longshore and Warehouse Union for the last 21 years.

 

 

Jim McEntire

Jim McEntire represents District 1 (east) and has served as a Port Commissioner since January 2008.

Commissioner Jim McEntire is twice retired – the first time after 32 years in the U.S. Coast Guard, retiring in the grade of Captain, and again from the Federal Senior Executive Service after an additional 6 years of civilian service to the nation.  In the Coast Guard, Jim commanded three ships, served as the Service’s principal officer responsible for preparing the Coast Guard annual budget, and later in charge of long range strategy.  In the Departments of Transportation, Labor, and Homeland Security, Jim served in successively more responsible civilian positions in charge of program planning, budget preparation, agency strategic planning, and business transformation. 

In addition to his vast military and governmental experience, Commissioner McEntire holds a Bachelor’s of Science degree from the U.S. Coast Guard Academy, a Master’s of Public Administration degree from George Washington University and was the first Coast Guard member of the Secretary of Defense Strategic Studies Group.  Commissioner McEntire and his wife Sherry live in the Sequim area.
